About MamaBear

Making pediatric care accessible to every family.

We’re a small, focused health technology company with one mission — give parents a way to get a clinician’s perspective from home, no matter where they live.

The MamaBear Health team

We’ve lived the uncertainty.

Wondering if a late-night fever meant a trip to the ER, only to be told everything looked fine. Most of the time, nothing changed — we just had to wait and worry. And when a child has the same symptoms again and again, the pattern that would explain it is rarely in front of the clinician at any single visit.

That’s why we created MamaBear Health: to give parents a simple way to capture what they see at home and bring it to their clinician as structured evidence — so recurring patterns get recognized, and families get clarity when it’s needed most.

Our mission is to make high-quality pediatric care accessible — no matter where families live. We’re focused on early childhood respiratory illness, with secure tools that help parents capture what’s happening at home and help clinicians see the whole picture and make smarter decisions, sooner.

We’re proud to be backed by federal innovation funding through the USDA and to partner with providers who believe rural and underserved communities deserve the same evidence-based care as anyone else.

I made multiple ER visits with my son because I couldn’t prove to our pediatrician what I saw at home. MamaBear lets you capture symptoms as they happen — so your provider can see the pattern and get your child the right care sooner.

USDA SBIR Phase I & II

MamaBear was developed under the USDA Small Business Innovation Research program — competitive federal funding awarded to high-impact rural health technology focused on underserved and Tribal communities.

AIMBE College of Fellows

Our founder, Marie Johnson PhD, was inducted into the 2025 AIMBE College of Fellows — recognizing the top 2% of medical and biological engineers in the country — for the development of transformative technologies to enable healthcare at home.

HIPAA-compliant & provider-led

Built on HL7 FHIR for optional Epic and MyChart integration, with secure email delivery where there’s no EHR infrastructure. All PHI encrypted in transit and at rest. The clinician interprets and decides — MamaBear captures and presents.

A small, focused team with deep expertise.

Biomedical engineering, mobile development, pediatric pulmonology, and clinical implementation — the right people in the right seats, building something that matters.

About the name

Why Loon Medical?

MamaBear Health is developed by Loon Medical, LLC — a Minnesota-based health technology company named after the loon, the Minnesota state bird. The loon is known for its distinctive call across quiet northern lakes and its ability to dive deep and resurface — a fitting metaphor for the kind of care we’re building: quiet, reliable, and always there when it matters.
